Ultramar Hotel Valparaiso

This is rated as a 4 star hotel and falls well short of that description. The staff are good, comfortable beds and great views but the rooms are very small and the furnishings are below average. To my mind not value.

A great hotel with a pretty good view. Cheap taxis make the location good. The only problem here was the breakfast. Although they call it an American Breakfast it is just a Continental cold breakfast. People nice and helpful

great hotel clean and new free internet continental breakfast plenty to eat they serve snacks and drinks throughout the day up on the hillside so not close to downtown but great view and can walk down to arty area then get the cable car to the bottom taxi cost 6000 pesos to the port would stay there again

Very special location, like and old factory building, but when inside its ok !

For those who want the ambiance of being up in the hills, which Valparaiso is all about it is good, basic hotel but clean. Lack of choice in restaurant bit limiting and walk up the hills would be hard for not so fit, taxi cost around C$2000 which was not too bad from Conception.

Very nice for the price. Great breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff. I´d certainly stay here again.

Staff very helpful. View from room spectacular - over the bay. Hotel up a steep hill but very cheap taxis into town at bottom. Breakfast basic but plentiful and fresh.

overall, this is not a bad hotel for the price. The service is excellent and staff is quite helpful. You will need to be fit to walk up and down from center plaza to the hotel. It is actually quite convenient not a hard walk except you must have good legs to manuever. The only down fall of the hotel is that the balcony site is facing the junk garage of a neighbor.

Ultramar is right at the top of a very high steep hill. We decided we could walk down. We did but it was very hard. Steep uneven sidewalks and roads. We are fit Seniors, but our legs trembled with the effort. We couldn't walk up. Taxi is the only way. Hotel has nice terrace but it overlooks a dirty scrapyard. But this is not unusual for Val. Nice houses can be surrounded by- what we would call slums. People very nice and helpful. Breakfast is good, but don't think you will get much of a dinner there. Snacks only. We would go again.

Staff was extemerely helpful. Views from the cafe were wonderful. Only downside was nearby construction.

Excellent, quirky smallish hotel on a hill (cerro) near the cebtre of Valparaiso. Good and friendly service, free internet, nice terace. Fanatastic VFM, breakfast included. A bit further away from the centre than competitors but other advantages more than make up for this.

Very pleasent stay at the Ultrmar. Location is in the hills but after our visit, I have no major problem with that. Would recommend for a short stay. Staff were helpful as well.

Very friendly and accomodating staff, very helpful to suggest the best restaurants with great food and prices. Great view from the breakfst area. Rooms with the best view are always reserved way in advance.
