Wellington Hotel New York Guest Reviews

5 out of 5

I had booked a double bed, but when they showed us to our room, it hadn't been cleaned yet. However, they upgraded us to a king size bed which was a much roomier room!!! Loved it. Check-in was real quick with no waiting! Attended to us really well and our room was cleaned very good every day! No complaints at all! Our hotel was close walking distance to Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, and many other great attractions! Noise level was pretty low from our room. Overall, our first time in NYC was a great experience and our stay at the hotel was excellent! Would stay there again!

Check in desk personal gave very poor service. My room was hot, one temp. was set by the hotel for all the rooms. I would never stay at that hotel again.

Good location but old. Toilet stopped up twice. Shower water faucet handle came off and had a hard time turning off water. Roach ran accross bathroom shelf. Heat would not turn off. Window shade was hard to get to stay down.

This was our second short NYC Christmas trip (driven by my desire to attend Maggie Dixon Classic and appreciated by my wife for shopping experience and seeing a play). Given that we were really stretching our 1 night stay by arriving at JFK at 7:30am and departing at 10:45pm the next day, the hotel was very accomodating to keep our luggage before check-in and after check-out. We checked in early, before the room was available and they gave us an upgrade to a 2 room suite. It seemed there were at least 2 towers, and maybe more, and we were not in the main. Our rooms were 'oldish', but well kept (unlike the previous year's hotel we'd stayed in, which was 'old' , small room, and not well kept up). Unfortunately they didn't have coffee maker in the room, but this is New York, and suppose that would have been exceptional. As it was, I regret we weren't staying longer, as we could easily have bought or brought instant coffee and used the microwave...this is a small point to me, but larger to my wife. WIth the suite we had 2 spacious closets, there was a small entry room where the small refrigerator and microwave was, and then to left was the sitting/living room and to right the bedroom, both were good size and very comfortable. There were windows in each room, including the bath, no view but good light. The bathroom was nice, good tub and water pressure, but not exceptional. We had a breakfast voucher for a restaurant just off the lobby and used it the 2nd day, and I'd have to say, the breakfast was quite good and a good value (our's was free with hotel stay, but the prices and service were quite reasonable compared to where we'd had breakfast the first day, across the street). And the 2nd evening while waiting for our limosine to the airport, we tried the 2nd restaurant/bar attached to the lobby, a fine Greek dining experience, where we both wished we'd explored earlier. I really liked the location, just a couple blocks south of Central Park on 7th Ave. The last thing we did before leaving was walk up there and took a horse and buggy ride through the park. I'd stay at the Wellington again though surely I'd find it less pleasant if we hadn't been upgraded--so not sure if I'd feel compelled to reserve a suite and then have to consider the cost trade-off.

This was our second stay at the Wellington, and we were, again, extremely pleased with the hotel and service. The first night there, we had loud nieghbors. After somplaining to the front desk, security went to check on the problem. We requested to be moved, and they made the new room arranged by the next morning. The entire staff is so friendly and helpful! The restaurant downstairs has wonderful breakfasts!

The lobby was beautiful, and most of the staff we came across was kind and attentive. They come in and tidy up your room everyday, even when you don't want them to! Like I said, the lobby was lovely but it was not indicative of the rooms. They weren't awful, but they were definitely run down. A typical NY room in a busy touristy area. The last night a mouse ran across the room. We never said anything, because we figured that was pretty average in NY. The sheets were clean and smelled great, and there was plenty of toiletry items provided. The carpets could use some help, and a new paint job on the walls. But for the price and location, these are so minor. It's right by the subway, and you can walk to central park or times square in five minutes. The elevators are quite small and fairly slow, we were on the 7th floor and it definitely was not a quick trip! I'm not normally very picky about hotels, it's just a place to rest after adventuring all day; but when I spend a good amount of money I'd like to be comfortable where I stay. I'd say from 1-10, 1 being least comfortable and 10 being most I felt about a 5 here. (the only reason I wouldn't recommend this hotel to a friend is because on our last stay to NYC we stayed in Greenwich Village and that was much more suited to our tastes. Less tourists, cheaper eats, slower pace.)

The location is great:a 5 minuet walk to Times Square and Central Park; 2 minuets to the major subway stations in NY. The room was fairly clean except for the kitchen sink which was clogged and wasnt fixed in 3 days. The room was cold because the ac did not work but they sent up a blanket which came handy. The tall chubby guy in reception was very friendly and nice. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a reasonable place and good value.

Great hotel if all you want is a bed to stay in. Location is brilliant, minutes from broadway times square and central park. The subway outside takes you straight down to battery park. Never had a problem with staff, they were helpful and friendly. The cafe used within the hotel was always busy and their food was great. Also had a small shop attached where you could book trips to attractions. Would definitely stay again.

Check-in person was pleasant and prompt. Room was surprising large for NYC. We were in the older (East) wing, so the heating system was simply hot water through a pipe that you turned on and off - but you could open the window. Location is great for upper midtown west - at a subway station, plenty of cabs running by and an easy walk to Lincoln Center and to the 50s on Fifth Avenue.

The room booked through Cheaptickets was terrifying - very Stephen King. It had a full sized bed, and was TINY, you could barely walk around the bed without running into something. The elevator to the room was down a dark, scary hallway, and the room itself was in a dark, scary hallway. We called the front desk to verify that we didn't book a room with a Queen sized bed, and they said that rooms booked through Cheaptickets were always the standard full sized bed. But they would upgrade us to a Queen sized bed for $20/night. We jumped on it. When we received our new keys, they informed us that they had upgraded us for free - yeah! Our next room was reached using the main elevator bank - a good sign. The hallway was bright and clean, another good sign. Our new room was much nicer, the bedding didn't look like the 1960's bedding in the prior room, and although the room was still small, it was like a palace compared to the first room. Overall, the hotel room was old and small, but clean. But it was really the location of the hotel that made it a good place to stay, just a couple blocks from the park, and a short walk to Times Square - perfectly centrally located. The hotel was okay for us because we were only staying two nights - but for any returns trips to NYC, we won't rebook there.

We had a wonderful stay. Nice comfortable room and pretty quiet for NYC. The location was excellent for walking to Times Square as well as up to Central Park. The subway station was right outside. We've stayed here before and will do so again when visiting NYC

Relatively cheap for such a great location. You have Times Square, Central Park, etc at walking distance. The rooms are a bit old but the hotel is clean.

The Wellington is nothing very special but it is very serviceable and offers a good value in a very good location. Subway literally is just outside the door. Its convenience is its biggest plus factor. The staff was very good and responsive to requests. It has a a good Greek restaurant on premises that though not overly friendly did have above average entrees. All things considered, the Wellington is worth the price.
