Could not find my reservation when I got there. After showing my confirmation number with the price they went ahead and made the reservation (said it would be same price). Then they let me know that I would probably be charged twice now and that I would have to take it up with cheaptickets if I was. Well it was, two charges, one from cheaptickets and then another from wilshire grand for two different amounts, gotta wait five days to get refund from cheaptickets. Good Job ;)
Overall, it's a very nice hotel for the deal that we got. I stayed twice at this hotel in the last 2 months and both times we got free upgrade to a junior suite which is nice. The rooms very spacious and one time we got a mini-kitchen and the other time a second bathroom. Only minor issue that there was a lot of noise coming from the adjacent rooms. Looks like the walls are not that sound-proof.
It was extremely good/excellent. ,I am sorry the Hotel will be torn down in December for a 5 year rebuild, It will put over 500 employees out of work. The staff was excellent I don't know who the person who said the staff was unfriendly was but he was probably from New York. The only comment I have was I asked them why they couldn't provide transportation to the SCC campus for the Game. And was told no one had asked before. Only negative. I didn't give a 5 because everything has to be perfect like BO DERiCK (10)
Our room wasn't all that luxury apart from the ginormous size and flat screen wall mounted tv. Clean and quiet. The location is fantastic, plenty to walk to and enjoy. The lobby is brass- (80s Vegas springs to mind),, but clean and well staffed. Great service at tiki bar, very fun place.
Ver confortable rooms, at a good location for downtown L.A.
The room was a good size and was cleaned we every day, but appeared to be very 'tired' as if it had seen better days. We arrived by taxi after a 12 hour flight and the doorman ignored us completely (in fact we were never welcomed at the door during the whole week). We struggled up the escalator with our bags and waited 10 minutes before we could check in, again no friendly smile or warm greeting. We felt as if we were invisible during our entire stay.
This was an inexpensive hotel in an expensive city. The workout room was great and never crowded. The pool area reminded us of old LA and the hotel room while tired was clean and comfortable.
My room was absolutely beautiful with a nice view of the skyline. We were lucky enough to stay in the hotel on the same night they had an event in the lounge/bar area. Since we were hotel guests we were allowed to attend for free. The DJ was fantastic. There was also a fashion show and quite a bit of networking that helped to distract us from the fact that waitress was painfully slow and cocktails were outrageously expensive. Parking was a bit of pain since you must valet park in the garage and wait in a long line to retrieve your car at the check out time with all of the other guests.
Overall my family's experience with this hotel was good. The Wilshire Grand is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and we could clearly see the Staples Center from our window. The lobby areas were well appointed. The hall carpets and walls were well-appointed. Furniture in the room was old, cheap and worn. The bed was great but the desk, coffee table and chairs need to be replaced. The sofa in our junior suite upgrade was also nice. It would've been great had there been a mini fridge in the room to keep water and fruit. The staff were very accommodating once they realized we were good tippers; they were aloof at first. One staff interaction I didn't appreciate was being asked to show my room key upon entering the hotel one night at 11 p.m. I'm a Black woman and believe it or not, I think my daughter, granddaughter and I were racially profiled by a Black male door/security guard who asked that we show the room key to prove we were guests at the hotel. No one else asked this of us our entire stay regardless of time of entry! Also, Black woman at Guest Services desk was distant and cold. Everyone else was great! We appreciated the 12 noon check out time as well.
CONS: *Woken up all night to people screaming and running down the halls. After calling security twice it did not stop. *Woken up extremely early to cleaning ladies talking non-stop (which sounded like they were laying in bed with me due to the extremely thin walls). *The bathroom was very small with no counterspace to hold any of my items. PROS: *Great view of the city. *Several restaurants in and around hotel. It would be very hard to convince me to stay at this hotel again. We paid $200 for one night, and got absolutely no sleep,
Just awesome...
hotel was and clean
Walked to the Convention Center and MOCA Museum. Was close to everything.
good hotel for the price - easy location as the metro was on the corner however there wasnt many choices for restaurants nearby. Would go there again
Room was clean and comfortable. Not big but was good for the price we paid. Convenient location in the financial district of downtown.
Nice Hotel for downtown LA would be better if it supplied Breakfast in room cost. Parking is expensive
The hotel staff were very helpful. I arrived at 8am and they did their best to get me a room by 11.00am. The room was clean and spacious. Location for public transport is unsurpassed. Thanks Wilshire Grand for a great stay.
Definitely 5 star. Large rooms and very comfortable. In the heart of downtown LA. Metro subway & bus transport virtually at the door, for all directions. We got an excellent weekend rate.
This is a large hotel in the downtown area of Los Angeles. Its walking distance to the Disney Concert Hall and Staples Center. The room was clean and a good size. The downstairs restaurant makes the best ever garlic bread, so be sure to try it. The neighborhood is deserted on weekends and after dark - no places to eat or shop except for 7/11's. I wouldn't recommend venturing outside after dark. The area is well serviced by public transport with an express bus running right to Santa Monica Pier, which takes about 1 hour.
Our stay was overnight on the 12th floor, we were pleased that we checked in without hassles after a long trip. Very clean and centrally located to bus & Metro.
