I was concerned about our stay here based on the wide range of reviews it had received on various sites. However, it worked for us - especially with the expensive alternatives for accommodation in Sydney. We had booked a double en suite for 4 nights, so perhaps that helped with the room quality (as opposed to shared baths). Sure, it was very small, but it was clean and on the third floor we enjoyed the elevator in the building. We didn't feel claustrophobic each evening as we watched TV after a full day in Sydney. As for noise, true, the hotel is right on the train tracks. I can imagine how loud it must be for those staying in rooms on the tracks-side of the hotel. Our room was on the non-tracks side, and we heard the trains, but that only sounded like passing thunder in a thunder storm, so it wasn't bad at all for us. If we didn't get the non-tracks side, then I don't know if I would have appreciated the hotel as much. The staff was very friendly and helpful with our requests (baggage storage, info, etc). The breakfast each morning was completely suitable - all you can eat, too. They had cereal (5 varieties), toast (2 varieties of bread, peanut butter and 5 types of jam), apple or orange juice, tea or coffee. Fill up on this and you can cruise until lunch with no snacking. The location is convenient - we read another reviewer's assessment and chose Redfern station, as it was closer than Central station. However, if coming in from the Airport (trains do not go to Redfern), then Central was still fine. Also, near to Redfern is a more blue-collar commercial street with less expensive restaurants, a Post Office, a Woolworths, etc. If you can get a room on the non-tracks side, then this hotel is a terrific deal for what you get (room, service, etc) and the location.
Lovely clean cool room. Great location close to public transport. Friendly helpful staff.

Family Room - One double bed and two single beds
Two Bedroom Apartment - One double bed and two single beds
Clean, secure, friendly small hotel. Very small but well-equipped and well-lighted rooms. Run-down area of town without any nearby restaurants or stores. Train station into town and to airport one long block away. Rest of transport and some restaurants about three blocks away. Included continental-type breakfast well presented with plenty of toast, coffee, juice, and cereal selection. We stayed three days - longer would have been tedious because of location.
We Stayed a Y Hotel for 6 nights during a 8 night trip to Sydney. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful ! We stayed in a double room which was very small though it was neat tidy and presentable The breakfast included was just what was needed though would have liked it to run a little later as 9.30 cut off is early for people on holidays :( The location was ok ... 5 - 10 min walk to train station to get into the city, 10 min walk to a large triple story shopping centre with cinema. I would definatly look at staying here again on a trip to Sydney Good Value for money
It is too far from the city center and major transportation center. The hotel room is very small. A double bed just fits into this narrow space.
close to main train station, and short 15 min walk to the cbd. the room was clean and breakfast was what you expect.
Positives: Great location near shopping, very central, in a great neighorhod, there is actually a Lamborghini dealership nearby. Negs: Shared bathroom and bunck bed that is not comfortable if you are a big guy. Overall: I just needed a cheap place to stay and it footed the bill. If you are into luxury accomidations, i would pass. Breakfast was cereal and toast. Free wifi. The shared bathroom wasn't that big of a deal as there are enough to where I didn't have a problem using them at all times. Somewhat loud with a good amount of people around.
Staff was superb, very helpful and courteous. Location easy, accesible to tourist attraction, trains, buses, ferry, all were easy to use. My first time using trains, buses, ferry. I felt like a local. Very economical for the budget, however if it's two persons you may need moore space. Enjoyed the staff.
good location.
Very Good Location, a few minutes walk to the train station (redfern). Staff are friendly and helpful. Clean and good price for a budget hotel near the city.
+ A very nice hotel in a close distance to Central Station. Breakfast included (cereals, toasts, tea, coffee, juices), laundry available, internet access ($25 per week). Great shower. - Rooms are really small.
For a one night stay in Sydney- grandparents taking grandchildren 8 and 6 to their cousin's birthday party, the family room, while very small was adequate for our needs. Very grateful that the room was on the far side of the building from the rail line. No frills breakfast but we were able to meet our diverse tastes. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The check-in was a bit of a hurdle for me. The receptionist informed me that I had a balance outstanding. I had thought I had paid out the full amount via the rates to go website. I was able to sort out the issue after calling the rates to go office in Sydney. I therefore did not have to pay out the amount. The rooms are reasonably clean. The bedding and towels are all white which give an impression of cleanliness. The entertainment in the room is pretty basic. An old tv with the old analogue stations (ABC, SBS, 7, 9 and 10). A kettle to prepare coffee or tea was provided in the room. The closest train station is Central which is slightly over a 5 minutes walk. One can also stroll to the city centre which is not too far of from the hotel. The breakfast is pretty basic. Tea/coffee, juice, cereal and bread.
budget accomodation but with very good service and cleanliness. only few minutes from cbd which is really good. a lot of coffee shops and restaurants are near by. russian restaurants coachmen just 10minutes walking distance is a nice spot to try someting different. receptionist is very polite and nice and always happy to help... well, one dissapointment: railway is just next door, which makes it very noicy sometimes...but owerall nice hotel and good price ...
The hotel is located right beside the train lines and trains are constantly going by, right through the night so it is very noisy. Rooms are very small but clean.
Rooms are really tiny. First room i was put in didnt have a heater, being winter it didnt help. Then when I asked if I could be moved as I didnt want to get frost bite I was told that there were no rooms... when it was obvious that I was probably the only one in the entire hotel. The next room I was moved to still didnt have a heater that worked so I gave up. The shower screen doors in both rooms were a little broken. The worst thing of all was ALL the noise from outside on the main street and also the train station near Central. But as stated previously, it was ok for the price.
The room and bathroom is a bit small but good value for money, about a 10 min walk to buses and rail station.
Small rooms but very helpful staff. A bit noisy due to traffic and trains but acceptable. Ten minutes walk to downtown. Very good pricing
staff A PLUS carpets need cleaning shower area dirty with mould 5min from redfern station 15 mins c b d if they could clean up this smaal problems i would stay again
I was very pleased with my stay at this hotel. The breakfasts were basic but the rooms were nice. The water pressure & temperature in the shower were excellent and the staff very very accomodating and helpful. The location was a little far from the centre of the city, but it did mean that there was little to no outside noise.
