Ancient 17th century " Convento dos Marianos " with 32 rooms. We are located in the Lapa Diplomatic area near the Tagus, French Embassy and the Ancient Art Museum. Inside the hotel are marble, tiled and polished wooden floors which create a serene and cosy atmosphere that is typically Portuguese. Corridors are tiled and spread with rugs, a sure improvement from its former austerity! Behind a pink painted wall, at the top of a mysterious flight of stairs, lies a terrace with a profusion of flowers and trees where peace is absolute, ideal for reading, having a drink, or simply absorbing the atmosphere of a different Lisbon. Evening dining is by candlelight on the terrace, or in the dining room. Traditional meals are served, cooked by our chef, and the wine list is extensive. There is a bar for a post or pre dinner drink. Furniture in the 32 guest rooms reflects the age and style of the buildings, and the floors are draped with lovely rugs. Most rooms have view's over the river and roofs of Lisbon and all have telephone, satellite TV, private bathroom and hairdryer. Please note that there is no lift, and due to the number of entrance stairs, the hotel is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

York House Hotel Lisbon Guest Reviews

3.2 out of 5

Good looking but slightly austere. And wireless internet didn't work in my room - perhaps because it was in the corner. IF that's important, make sure you get a room with a good connection.

3.8 out of 5

I wanted some luxury, had been seduced by the website and was prepared to pay the price but was very disappointed. It is a lovely building, in a good location. The room was clean and comfortable and facilities were good, although I felt very cold in the restaurant on both mornings at breakfast. Considering how expensive it was, despite a porter to help with luggage (there's no lift and a lot of stairs) I thought the service was indifferent and the staff complacent. I wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't stay there again.

Generally found this to be an excellent hotel. Enjoyed meals in restaurant although not good for myself as a non-meat eater. Breakfast selection very good. Hotel a little further from centre than we anticipated but perfectly manageable due to good bus and tram services, and inexpensive taxis. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a hotel I would recommend without hesitation.

We had a lovely stay. Staff very friendly. Breakfast (including Champagne) good. Dinner very good. The enclosed courtyard is pleasantly shady & relaxing. Just a bit inconspicuous, we drove right past! Walking distance to town, or just take the bus/tram 100 metres away. Heres a tip for anyone looking for a place in Central Portugal: try Quinta dos Três Rios near Viseu (w3 d0t minola d0t co d0t uk), its simply amazing & they have the best Internet connection in town!

This is a charming hotel, not in a bad location but not great. Very pretty courtyard. The only downside was the STAIRS you have to climb to get up to the office. I'm sure normally there would be a bellperson to help but i got in late and that didn't happen. That is the only minor negative. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Lisbon was super fun!

A great hotel with loads of character, York House is a little oasis of calm in this buzzing city. If you don't fancy the 20min walk into the main areas of Lisbon, trams and taxis are cheap and on your doorstep.

Delighted we chose York House for our short city break to Lisbon. The bedroom was superb - large four poster bed, walk in wardrobe and excellent bathroom. Views not great but this was made up by the the piture perfect courtyard, cobblestoned and surrounded by trees. There are fifty winding steps from the entrance up to hotel reception which add to the mystique of the hotel. Perfect location - just outside you can catch the no.60 bus for a five min ride into city centre. The hotel restaurant may not be to all tastes - rabbit, red deer, octopus and octopus are the specialities. Overall a superb choice for your stay in Lisbon.

A green, quiet oasis in a busy street (with intense nightlife offer for a predominantly 20- crowd). Not in the nucleus of the historical center, but well connected and still within a 20 minute walk. Beats the hotels around Rossio and M.Pombal by miles - great atmosphere, outstanding breakfast. Will be our base for future visits

The hotel turned out to be a very pleasant surprise indeed. We intended to stay for only two nights, but found the hotel to be an excellent oasis offering such a good deal that we stayed on for six more nights. The room was cool, clean, quiet and dark at night - perfect for our needs. I´d love to stay there again. Good value, brilliant breakfast.

Great location in the Lapa district of Lisbon (the "VIP" area as the locals call it). It is nestled in an old courtyard that is a great place to have coffee or read a book. The rooms have been modernized with nice amenities and the bathrooms look great in white marble and simple lines. The staff was very friendly and helpful. WiFi was available through Vodafone, but only accessible near the courtyard since the walls of the hotel blocked reception. Overall, it was a fabulous place to stay if one is looking for tons of character.
