AJANTA HOTEL NEW DELHI

"Very friendly and helpful. There is a very good local restaurant almost opposite the hotel which serves very good local food. The hotel is about 400meters from New Delhi railway station and the hotel can arrange train tickets if you want them too. The hotel has an IN HOUSE taxi service which is handy and cheep and can take you to the Red Fort within minutes.We found the taxi service was even cheeper if we booked it for 5 hours at a time, to get around Old and New Delh. "The hotel is nice enough and the room we had was clean and comfortable. The location is good for the train station and sightseeing. But after persuading us to upgrade our room, which we did quite happily as it was a nice room, the staff lost all interested in us. We wanted to book train tickets for the next day and they were less than helpful, so much so we went to the train station and booked it ourself, even though the hotel staff told us that the reservations office was closed until the evening, it was not!!!!! One note to make is that the Lonelyplanet guide used to list the Ajanta, now they have dropped it. I would recommend the Grand Goodwin hotel which is next door, we stayed there when we returned to Delhi. The rooms are lovely and clean, the service is helpful and friendly, the rates are lower than the Ajanta and include breakfast, if you are leaving early in the morning they will pack you a breakfast to take with you, it is also listed in the Lonely Planet." - Christine Beard

"This hotel was very good for a budget hotel in Delhi. It is in a very crowded and loud part of the city which was all part of the experience for us. The staff were very friendly as well. The roof top bar is basic but a has great views of the city and is a nice quite place to relax above the busy streets." - Andrew Johnsen
