"A gem. The front desk isn't generally staffed, but you'll find friendly and helpful folks staffing the pub downstairs to help you. They'll help you navigate the grand old staircase with your bags. The dining room is a huge room sparsely dotted with tables. Breakfast and other meals were good as well. The room itself was charming with opening windows (useful as the room was quite warm -- October). " - Anonymous
"Really enjoyed our stay in this picturesque hotel - conveniently close to bus stop (2 minute walk) and bus takes you downtown in 10 min.
Very friendly staff - good food. Our children stayed in room 19. It was a huge room, almost like a suite, so definitely ask for that room!
A place to keep coming back to!

"The rooms decorated very well with lots of living space in the rooms as well as the very popular bar. The food was very good as was the service " - Anonymous
"The food was very good (Evening & Breakfast) & the bar with Sky Sports was a bonus as I didn't need to venture into the centre. The room I thought was a little small but it was a single, however it was clean & fine for what I needed. I usually stay in [another hotel] due to the price but this was matched due to a late booking & was only a few hundred yards from where I dropped off a car which was ideal as it needed to be collected early on the Sunday morning. Car Park was a also a bonus as the street parking could have worked out expensive. " - Anonymous

| Hotel Description: |
|
Set within the mature, leafy suburbs to the south of Edinburgh city centre, The Royal Ettrick Hotel provides the perfect getaway from the bustle of the city whilst still being within walking distance of The Old Town. This popular residential area of the city has housed some of its most famous inhabitants, past & present including Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. Built in the 1860's as the grand home of a rich Edinburgh barrister, The Royal Ettrick remained a private residence until it was converted into a hotel during the 1940's. Undergoing refurbishment & extension in early 2008, the hotel has the modern conveniences guests have come to expect whilst retaining the original character & features of this beautiful building. The Royal Ettrick Hotel is situated less than fifteen minutes by bus to Princes Street & linked to the heart of the old town by The Union Canal making access to Edinburgh's major attractions quick & simple. The hotel offers 17 bedrooms situated across all three floors of the property, & upstairs accommodation is accessed via the original ornate staircase. In the morning a full Scottish cooked breakfast & continental selection are served in The Conservatory Bistro on the ground floor. The Conservatory offers a full menu throughout the day with restaurant dining in the evening. The hotel also houses The International Bar, offering true Scottish colour & character with a traditional pub feel & broad range of regular customers & guests alike. |
