Consumer Reviews and Rating

"The hotel is run like a bed and breakfast and was a wonderful experience. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The apartment room for the price was great. If you want to save on room, the small rooms with shared bath are a great way to go. There is a nice lounge with internet and cable television. The hotel is located near the St. Thelmo area, which is has nice shops, eating places and a fun market on Sundays. I felt very safe at this hotel. Also, they are very accomodating for storing your luggage, while you spend your last day in the city (if you have a late flight departure). I would highly recommend this hotel for those who want something more personal and something inexpensive." - Anonymous

"Sound carried. You could always hear people coming in at night and getting up in the morning. The cheaper rooms had no window, I think it would be well worth paying for the better rooms. Apart from that I liked it. From the political talks over breakfast with people from a host of nations to dancing in the evening on the stone floor of the vast common room. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff; from helping with putting credit on mobile phones to advice on where to go. The receptionist was only too happy to text her pals to find out the best places to go that evening. I will stay there again." - Anonymous

"Casa Vaiven is very good: 1. Interesting building (converted from old factory) with cool design details (mix of antique furniture & modern fittings). Living space very relaxing with WiFi, PC with iīnet (no charge) plus cool reading material! 2. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Only about 5 (?) guest rooms so always available to help, esp. as present 24/7, not like some other places. Also very security conscious. 3. Very good value - Basically itīs a very cheap price for kind of boutique place. Location isnīt really in heart of San Telmo but compared to similar places close by it is cheap. As mentioned staff are v. aware of security - made us concerned about the area but that also just getting used to BA. After few days there I now think that area is OK (not great but if you are savvy it will be safe). Oh yeah, also takes bookings over the internet unlike lots of places. Enjoy!" - Brendan Harber

"Just spent 5 nights at Casa Vaiven at beginning and end of trip to Argentina. It's a wonderful place where we were made to feel very welcome and at home. I would definately recommend it to others. San Telmo is definately the best place to stay in BA and Casa Vaiven is just a couple of mins walk from everything but in a more relaxed part which is great." - Tom Dixon

Hotel Information
Hotel Description:    Owned by a young Argentine woman, Casa Vaiven occupies an old converted warehouse in a quite area of San Telmo. Although there are only five rooms, the communal area (complete with TV lounge, foosball and Internet) is huge. Three of the five rooms are ensuite , Two rooms share a bath and all are straightforward yet comfortable. Four of the five rooms are on the 2nd floor and open onto a small balcony that overlooks the interior. There's a fully equipped communal kitchen and a comfy TV area. One of the best things about the place is the feeling that you're getting something the rest of the foreigners in touristy San Telmo are missing: the dilapidated and atmospheric side streets near the barrio (neighbourhood) of Barracas. Although it's only blocks from the heart of San Telmo, the tourists never make it here. If you're planning staying in BA, CasaVaiven is an excellent alternative.
