Close to the stunning Cataract Gorge and on the banks of the Tamar river, the Penny Royal Hotel & Apartments is an ideal place from which to explore northern Tasmania. Originally built as a corn mill in 1840, the hotel was moved 54 kilometres to Launceston and was rebuilt as a hotel over 130 years later stone by stone.
Penny Royals hotel suites have recently been given a fresh breath of life and are well appointed, extremely comfortable and modern while still retaining a unique heritage atmosphere.
Hotel suites offer guests super comfortable beds and bedding, colour TV, individual room heating, direct dial telephones, hairdryer, iron, tea/coffee making facilities and fridge.
Penny Royals self-catering apartments are a great option for families, groups or those who wish to be more self-sufficient. Apartments are available in one, two, three or four bedroom configurations and have full kitchen facilities, lounge room area and are very spacious.
Breakfast is served onsite at the new Owls Nest Restaurant.
Behind the wheel of Penny Royals corn mill lies Gourlays Famous Sweets. A visit to Launceston is not complete without indulging in some of Gourlays delicious hand made chocolates and lollies.
