"Chose hotel as it's in Chinatown where you can experience older part of city with hawkers/markets/wholesalers. Near train stn for provinces and a subway point (40 baht/pax) to city. Metered cab to Silom 60/80 bahts (worthwhile for 4 paxs) depending on traffic. When directing taxi to hotel, be careful as can be missed due to diff approaches and small hotel sign. Best stop at Chinatown Hotel (more visual) 15 metres ahead. Nothing modern abt hotel (hence pricing) but functionable. Bfast(egg/toast or local+coffee) Aircon works well/no temp control except "switch off". Not complaining." - Kian Hock Lim
"New Empire is a very good hotel...Initial thought is that it is old, dirty and out of the way..But but if you stay there long enough you would appreciate it, as it is one of the few hotel which in the centre of food paradise....We don't have to worry of where to find food....Where to buy groceries....all are just about 200 - 300m away.....Furthermore the staff of the hotel is also very helpful and pleasant...I remember leaving my $1000B note in my bermudas and sent it for laundry.....When I inform the house-keeper about this...she immediately went to the laundry department and managed to help me to retrieve the $1000B...This is the high standard of the hotel.." - Chua Teck Leong
