"Nothing stands out as really good or really bad. I went on short notice and on the weekend, so the pricing wasn't an issue. The cleanliness of the rooms could be an issue for those used to better hotels, but if you're willing to accept that some of the rooms are a bit worn and dusty then it shouldn't be a major issue. I found the breakfast quite nice - at least you're given options for a hot meal. The hotel is about a 15 min walk from the city centre, but it's right next to Calton Hill (which gives a great view of the city and the Firth of Forth) and not too far from Holyrood and Arthur's Seat." - Anonymous
"Definitely a 2 star hotel, the Cairn could use a face lift, particularly new carpet. The bathrooms seem "new" and definitely a nice touch. (If you get a single room, don't expect much in the way of space.) Be ready to haul your luggage up stairs since there is no lift in either the main location or "Annex" across the street. There are a few nice staff, which make up for the others in management with body odor. The location is perfect though! Bus stops are all around and taxis are easily available. One nice thing I appreciated was the free wi-fi, but this was really only available in the lounge area. They also let you keep your bags at the front desk while you explore the city before your flight, etc. They are left out IN FRONT of the desk, though, so this is AYOR. But everyone seemed to do it and no problems were reported. Overall it is not a bad place to stay, but I suggest shopping around before settling on this one. " - Anonymous
