Where to Find an Adult Beverage in Disney World

No one will argue with the fact that Disney World is an excellent family vacation destination. The problem most people have, however, is getting used to spending 24/7 with the family when that’s certainly not what they do on a daily basis because of work and school obligations.

Everyone deserves a little down time once in a while. So if you’re traveling with family why not hire a babysitter (many Disney resorts have babysitting services) or ask someone to watch the kids so you and your special someone can hit the streets of Disney alone.

Kicking Back with a Glass of Wine in Disney

Alright, Disney World is, for all intensive purposes, a family park. What does this mean to you? If you’re in the Magic Kingdom you’ll be hard pressed to find any sort of alcoholic beverage.

Let us translate. That means you won’t find anything at all. Zip. Zilch. None.

You will, however, find alcoholic beverages in some of the other parks and in the Disney attractions surrounding the parks as well. There are more than a few to choose from. Just to put things into perspective, there are over 400 sit-down restaurants within the confines of the Walt Disney World Resort grounds and hundreds of additional portable food cards and stands. You have, literally, thousands of choices when it comes time to eat.

The more the merrier, we say. Like we said, if the restaurant you choose is outside of the Magic Kingdom you will probably find at least a few alcoholic beverages on the menu. If you love wine, the odds of finding something to drink automatically increases.

As a matter of fact, wine is a pretty popular feature in Disney. More than 600 sommeliers (a waiter who manages wine service) have earned the Court of Master Sommelier Introductory Certificate from the folks in Disney and over 300 can be found in Disney restaurants today. Those are pretty impressive numbers.

So we’ve established that there are plenty of places to find a drink. It doesn’t matter if you like a nice cocktail, a stiff shot, a glass of wine, or a cold beer. There are plenty of options to choose from and here are some of our favorites.

Touring Epcot as an Adult

Epcot is not only fun but educational as well. Fortunately, there’s a world of adult education available for responsible parents. We’re still talking about beverages here, folks!

As you tour each of the countries in Epcot you’ll find that they all have a distinct culture when it comes to the types of alcoholic beverages they serve or are famous for.

Beer in Disney

In the United Kingdom, for example, you’ll find the Rose and Crown Pub. Inside they serve a hearty ale that they say is a favorite amongst the British. They also claim the Brits like to drink their Guinness heated to a lukewarm 55 degrees, but we’ve yet to actually find someone from the UK who likes his beer this way. The choice is up to you.

Beer in Epcot's Germany

Germany is another great place to grab a cold brew, especially at the German Oktoberfest in Biergarten. Enjoy a beer in the restaurant or simply stop by the wine shop for an Ice Wine sample before moving on to the next country on your list.

Looking for something a little stronger than beer? Head on over to Mexico and find your way towards the Gran Fiesta Tour. You’ll find plenty of stands serving up delicious chilled margaritas. What a great way to top off a hot day in the parks.

Alcohol Outside the Main Parks

If you’d like a drink that reminds you of home, head on over to Hollywood Studios and duck inside the 50′s Prime Time Café. Inside you’ll find choices from “Dad’s Liquor Cabinet.” Favorites include Scooter’s Long Island Iced Tea, beers, wines, and more.

Dawa Bar in Animal Kingdom

A favorite amongst quite a few travelers is a trip to Victoria Falls at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Inside you’ll have the opportunity to sample a number of authentic African spirits and wines.

The sophisticated drinker will enjoy a trip to Mizner’s in the Grand Floridian Resort. The renaissance style bar serves mint juleps, cosmos, and a wide variety of vodkas.  Single malt scotch whiskey, ports, and champagnes are available as well!

These are, of course, only a few ideas for places where you might be able to enjoy an adult beverage. Remember, your trip to Disney doesn’t have to be rated PG for the entire duration of your stay. As a matter of fact, we really can’t blame a sane adult for wanting a cold drink after two or three days in the park. Use discretion and stay safe. Your trip through Disney will be just as enjoyable for you as it is for the kids!
