Equine Tours – Viewing the World on Horseback

Most of us think of touring the country or historic sites on foot or in our cars, but those who want a real idea of what history was like opt for a first-hand experience on the back of a horse. Horses allow riders to move more slowly than they would in cars while truly feeling their surroundings. Hundreds of years ago, horses were our only mode of transportation.

Lynne Holzhauser, the owner of Lynne?s Riding School in New York City, has been quoted as saying that Equitours is one of the best touring companies in the world when it comes to horseback riding. She recommends comparing schools, and paying close attention to which trips are better for beginners.

Never overestimate or underestimate your ability as a horseback rider. Even beginners should take a few lessons before they go on their trip. Your leg muscles will thank you for getting them in shape before a long ride. Acting like you have more experience than you really do could get you in trouble with your horse, or even hurt.

A few of our favorite horseback riding trails great for both new and advanced riders are here:

Tuscany provides excellent, relaxed horseback rides through the vineyards. The Maremma horses will take you though the Etruscan ruins and you won?t feel overwhelmed or exhausted by the end of your tour.

Wales is the home of the Welsh Cob pony, which is an excellent choice when it comes to introducing the youngest beginner to horseback riding. Adults may not get to ride, but they?ll still enjoy the atmosphere and some of the other horseback riding venues in the area. The Horse Riding Brecon Beacons is one option while the Clwyd Special Riding Centre caters to those with disabilities.
